How to engage with your Customers

Nationwide Payment Systems works with many business types, and here are some suggestions for doing well in 2024.

Businesses need to be a part of the local community, charge reasonable prices, and offer products and services that consumers need. When big box stores use technology, it helps them gather customer info and have loyalty programs. Larger businesses are more popular, so you need to make sure your customers choose you by offering and advertising trendy products, good food, and website/e-commerce, as well as accepting the latest forms of payment like Apple Pay.

Here are our Top 10 Tips

  1. Get Customers in Your Business Make sure people want to visit your store. Give them a reason to come in, not just because it's nearby. Using people's names always makes people feel more comfortable. When you go for coffee, they use your name or ask you for your name when you sit at a restaurant. Be like Cheers - where everyone knows your name!
  1. Delivery can help you sell more. Decide how you want to deliver things to your customers. Doing it yourself can be better than using services like DoorDash, DoorDash Drive, Uber Eats, or GrubHub because you can learn more about your customers and ensure they have a good experience. Offer curbside pick up of goods on your website as well.
  1. Location Services: Make sure your store is listed on-location services like Google Business Page, Google Maps, Alexa, Siri, and other directories like Yelp. Check that the information is correct because sometimes it's not. Being listed can help when new people or a new business move into the area.
  1. Using AI  (Artificial Intelligence), a computer that can find patterns in data and make predictions. With AI tools like GenAI and ChatGPT, you can get helpful information and marketing ideas without being an expert. AI can also save you money compared to hiring a consultant. Be careful using this tool. It is good to add the human element to the writing. It's time to experiment with AI!
  1. Improving Operations: Know what's happening in your business. Is it time to upgrade your technology and get a new point-of-sale system? When was the last time you updated your website? Adding self-order Kiosks, e-commerce, and or other modern service offerings. Change your payroll company to give your employees more options, like earned wage credit, if they need to get paid early. Find out how many people come in, how many buy certain items, and why some don't move. A modern Point of Sale system can save you time and money and give you valuable information to help you run your business. Use sensors and cameras with AI software to collect and understand this information quickly and cheaply.
  1. Payment and Loyalty: A loyalty program lets customers collect points in your store and save money when they hit a goal. On slower days, you can offer double points and even give more points on certain more profitable items. This keeps customers coming back more often! Also, taking Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Tap and Go cards is important!
  1. Learn from Success or Failure. Look at what worked or didn't work before. Ideas that failed before might work now. For example, FedEx package drop-offs didn't work 15 years ago, but now Amazon Go package services are standard. My favorite book is Who Moved the Cheese; you must consider this concept and keep it fresh. It could be painting your business, creating a new tagline, or creating a new Facebook cover picture.
  1. Community Engagement: involvement in your local community can be essential so people in the area know you, the Chamber of Commerce, local networking groups, and local charities. Consider getting a generator to keep things running during disasters if that would be essential to keeping your business going.
  1. Partner with Your Suppliers Share information about your market with your suppliers. In return, they might give you technology or promotions you need help to get. Together, you can find the best solutions for your store. Buying the right products or trendy items or taking advantage of a sale or promotion they have can bring in more business.
  1. Gamify. Make shopping fun! Give customers rewards for shopping often or buying new things. They can earn points, free items, or other prizes. Your employees can also earn rewards, like getting their preferred work hours.

Keeping your customers engaged is essential, regardless of your business type, social posts, newsletters, or loyalty programs. It all depends on your business type and location and the kind of clients you have. But doing the same thing gets boring!

Strategies for Building Customer Relationships

One key strategy for engaging with your customers is to ensure that your business is actively involved in the local community. This can include participating in local events, sponsoring community initiatives, or partnering with local charities. By demonstrating your commitment to the community, you can build trust and loyalty among your customer base.

In addition to community engagement, it is important to offer products and services that meet the needs of your customers. Conduct market research to understand consumer preferences and trends, and tailor your offerings accordingly. By staying up-to-date with customer needs, you can ensure that your business remains relevant and competitive in the market.

Utilizing Technology for Customer Engagement

Technology plays a crucial role in customer engagement, especially in today's digital age. Implementing tools like AI (Artificial Intelligence), self-order kiosks, e-commerce, and mobile payment options can enhance the customer experience and streamline operations. By investing in technology, you can attract tech-savvy customers and stay ahead of the competition.

Furthermore, leveraging social media platforms, newsletters, and loyalty programs can help you stay connected with your customers and keep them informed about your latest offerings and promotions. By utilizing these digital channels effectively, you can foster a sense of community and loyalty among your customer base, ultimately driving repeat business and referrals.
